Little girl on swimming pool

Swimming is an excellent way to cool off while working out, but be mindful of the potential risks. Require your kids to follow certain safety rules, including rules against running near the pool and using riding toys like tricycles in the area. Let your kids know that electrical appliances and water can be a deadly combination. Additionally, urgent care physicians warn against diving into shallow pools. Tell your kids that the only diving allowed is off the diving board.

Kids need adult supervision at all times near the pool. A supervising adult should be careful not to be distracted by conversations or a book while on lifeguard duty. Supervising adults must also avoid alcohol. Adults shouldn’t swim alone, either. It’s safer to use the buddy system. When the pool isn’t in use, set the pool alarm and lock the security gate.
